Hero Fest 2010 Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Superhero Festival Comes to Carbondale
08/27/10
On September 4, 2010, the city of Carbondale will be full of superheroes.
Hero Fest 2010 is a superhero-themed celebration of local community groups. This festival will run from 2 pm to 6 pm at the Town Square Pavilion. Hero Fest 2010 will feature live music, games for children and adults, a costume design booth, and more. Superhero costumes are encouraged, but not required. Local groups will have information booths offering real-life opportunities for you to be a superhero in your community. Carbondale's local Real Life Superhero, Treesong, will also be giving a talk about the Real Life Superhero movement and how you can get involved in exciting community adventures, with or without a costume.
Musical acts include the Parsley & Sagebrush Dynamic Duo (folk); Magilla (alternative / rock / freak folk); Amphetamine Gazelle (rock / metal); and Evan Sims (ukulele). The costume design booth will feature art supplies for drawing costumes, suggestions on costume colors and styles, and a laptop featuring the easy-to-use HeroMachine character art program. The Real Life Superhero booth will feature information about the Real Life Superhero movement, photos of Real Life Superheroes from other cities, and superhero advice from Treesong, Carbondale's local Real Life Superhero. Local yoga superhero Sarah Miller will be offering a free yoga demo suitable for beginners and people of all experience levels. Power for the event will be provided by Advanced Energy Solutions using their innovative Mobile Solar Power & Training Trailer. Local community groups will also be offering superhero "quests" — opportunities to make a difference in the community by volunteering or otherwise helping local groups and people in need.
The Real Life Superhero movement is an international effort to bring fun and creativity back into community involvement. Rather than dwelling on how big and depressing the problems are in our community and society, Real Life Superheroes focus on positive and life-affirming ways that everyday people can make a difference for the better.
