Lead into gold,
lead into gold,
lead into gold.
They say I’m too old
to believe in magic
but I say it’s tragic
that they only believe
in what they see
when in reality
the only constant
is change.
Isn’t it strange
the art and science of change
rearranging bits of metals and plastic
to send bits of data around the world
mobilizing people and rearranging words
to alter the course of nations
realigning thoughts and feelings
hormones and organs
bones and sinews
to turn despair into daring
and agony into ecstasy.
This is alchemy
the sapient shift
sometimes slow and sensual
sometimes sudden and sharp
that changes everything.
It’s the burning in my lungs
as I jog through the morning fog
the flush of blood and pulse of breath
as I twist and turn through my yoga
the light in my eyes and fire in my heart
as I kiss every part of the woman I love
and hold her healing hands
and wander through the wildwood
and weave words into webs
and develop designs driven by dreams.
Lead into gold,
lead into gold,
lead into gold,
and I’ll never be too old
to believe in magic.
