Welcome to the Big Muddy Independent Media Center! We're currently working on restoring the full features of our website, including the newswire, archives, and so on. In the meantime, here are some resources that will help you to connect with the Big Muddy IMC and other sources of independent media.

  • Big Muddy News Radio: Our weekly radio program airs every Wednesday at 9am on WDBX 91.1 FM.
  • Meetings: We meet every Friday at 6pm at the Big Muddy IMC, located at 214 N. Washington in Carbondale [map]. On the off weeks, we may have meetings for projects such as the newspaper.
  • Email List: Information on our main email list is available at Big Muddy IMC Discussion.
  • Tech Support and Contact: If you need help joining the email list or getting in touch with the group, you can contact Treesong, a Big Muddy IMC member and infamous computer geek.
  • Global IMC Network: We're part of a global network of Independent Media Centers. For more information on the network, the other IMCs, and the latest global news, visit indymedia.org.

    This is a global indymedia project. If you would like to see showings in Carbondale, talk to us here at the local IMC. If you would like to submit something, talk to the folks at Indymedia Newsreal (and be sure to let us know too!).

    INDYMEDIA NEWSREAL, a monthly television series, brings progressive grassroots organizing, going on in your backyard, to a national television audience. Newsreal is a longstanding collaboration between the Independent Media Center and Free Speech TV. Newsreal is shown on Free Speech TV every first Thursday at 8 PM EST. In addition, it is sent on disc to community screening groups, who show it during public screenings or include it on public access shows. Each program covers actions taken in local communities, by ordinary people, to address critical issues like air and water pollution, war, reproductive rights, homelessness, for-profit prisons, sweatshops, racism, police brutality, indigenous struggles, and more.

    Use Indymedia Newsreal before your screenings!

    Show the Newsreal program or segments from Newsreal before the main feature during your screenings. Newsreal would help diversify your program, work as a buffer for late-comers, and highlight more current issues than a feature length film would be able to do.
