From TheUltimaSociety

The long-term goal of the Ultima Society website is to create the greatest collaboratively edited Ultima resource online. This long-term goal will only become possible with the help of many Ultima enthusiasts like you!

In order to prevent the site from being defaced by random visitors, only Users can edit pages, and only Admins can create new Users. Therefore, if you'd like to contribute to this site, you must contact me, Treesong.

I'm very eager to get as many Ultima people as possible editing this website so that we can have a really cool Ultima design community here. However, I know that some other Wikis get defaced incessantly, so I have established a few simple groundrules around new memberships.

Ground Rules

  1. In order to qualify, you must demonstrate to me that you are actually an Ultima enthusiast and not a random defacer. There are a few ways of doing this:
    • If I know you personally, just ask for a username and I'll give you one.
    • If I don't know you personally, demonstrate to me that you are not some random defacer. Here are some suggestions:
      • Show me your own Ultima website.
      • Tell me that you are an Ultima Dragon and what your dragon name is.
      • Tell me that you are a past or present Wayfarer.
      • Tell me that you think Ultima is cool but you don't meet any of the above and would just like to convince me that you're an honest person with a sincere interest in the site.
  2. All final decisions about this website, including arbitration of disputes over content, explusion of users, style, layout, and so on are currently made by me, Treesong. If you disagree, feel free to tell me so, but in the end, the final decision is currently mine.

I'm generally a very mellow person, and very eager to see new members join. So why did I create these guidelines? And why are all decisions made by me considered final?

Simply put, for the time being, this site is my personal website. My money pays for the hosting and domain name, and my time keeps the site's technology flowing smoothly. So, although I am trying to make this a cooperative effort and just act like any other contributor, I may have to draw the line at certain points and make a final decision.

One of my long-term goals for the Ultima Society is to create a non-profit organization or association of some sort to maintain the website and any other Ultima-related projects. This way, all people who participate in the project will have creative control over the project, and the group will carry on reg. Until that's created, though, I reserve the right to act unilaterally in what I consider to be the best interest of the site.

Of course, if all goes well, none of this will ever even come up... :)
