Social/ecological issues,earth-centered spirituality, outdoors stuff like camping/hiking, good movies, good books, good music, dancing, sci-fi/fantasy (not to the point of obessession! hah!), healthy living, anarchism, raw food... AND... women between the ages of 18 and 37 who are single and share at least a few of the above interests. (You know you want a man who is strong but sensitive! Now you've stumbled onto the profile of a sweet and sexy revolutionary! And you KNOW you want to IM me... don't be shy now... :)
Music
Good golly... you expect me to choose my FAVORITE anything? I have so much love to go around! Let's see...
I like folksy music with social/eco themes, anything from Robert Hoyt to David Rovics to Folk Fiasco on WDBX...
When I'm angry or just looking for some fire, I fall back on my punk roots, which was some of the first political music I listened to. Bad Religion, Propagandhi, Anti-Flag, a bunch of others I don't know the names of. Rage Against the Machine was big for me too, but kinda hard to classify, eh?
RADICAL/REVOLUTIONARY hip hop such as Michael Franti, Spearhead, Dead Prez... HELL YEAH! I know it's probably funny to watch a "white man" sing along to some of this stuff... but it's all about fighting the oppression put down by the people in power... and my Irish ancestors have been fighting against Anglo elites for centuries...
Spiritual music is great too... light, airy New Age stuff that I mostly don't know the name of... some Enya, and some lesser known people like Shaina Noll... powerful healing music... I mean, the angry music's pretty healing in its own way too, but this is a different kind
Weird Al, spoofs of pop culture music, etc... Weird Al's da bomb, man! I saw him twice in concert
Ani DiFranco... I'm not as into her as I used to be, but damn... she's such a powerful woman, and she's probably a foot shorter than me but she gets up on stage and just leaps up in the air and lays into that music with such intensity and beauty...
Evanescence... I haven't really kept up, but I looped that one album about a million times... "Bring me to life..."
And yeah, I admit to some really cheesy music, most of which I don't really know the names of... cheesy 70s/80s/90s love songs, ":You're my brown-eyed girl..."
Movies
SO MANY! Like, ohm'god....
The Matrix.... I mean, seriously. This is THE MOVIE of our times,... :) I have a tendency to over-use this as a metaphor for the current socio-political-spiritual reality. I even have a whole section about it on my web site. TAKE THE RED PILL!!!
Other Sci-Fi/Fantasy... Star Wars, What Dreams May Come, What the Bleep Do We Know, Serenity, so many more
Political movies... The Corporation, Bread and Roses, Land and Freedom (toss a handful of free soil on my grave when I pass on!!!), many others whose names escape me that I saw at the Big Muddy IMC Film Fridays
Some more pop/mainstream movies... Superman (new one coming Summer 2006!!!), Independence Day, Fight Club, others
Television
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER!!! This show, like, TOTALLY tapped into the collective unconscious, dude... :) SEEEIOUSLY... the first couple of seasons are a little cheesy, but once you get into the meat of it, there's remarkable dramatic power to this thing.
Daily Show! w00t w00t! This is probably the best news show on "mainstream" TV... which is pretty funny since it's a comedy show. I just LOVED it when he put the smack down on the Crossfire hosts and probably almost single-handedly got their sorry republicrat butts cancelled... hah!
The Simpsons... they "jumped the shark" a really long time ago, but I loved them in their prime. This lead me to be a sucker for other Fox shows even though Fox is evil... :) I loved 24, and That 70s Show, and a few others.
Occassional science shows on PBS and cable channels (when I have cable access)... I mean, science is SO COOL sometimes... :) I'm sort of a neo-luddite... I think that we should be very thoughtful and ethical in our research and development and distribution of new technology... but I also think that we should research the nature of the world, and I just love some of these science shows that explore theories on the Earth's origins, psychology with Zimbardo, etc. I don't watch them often but they're cool.
Mr. Rodgers... what can I say... d00d was l33t! I'm actually planning a Public Access TV show inspired by his show if we ever get Public Access in this town... I'm calling it Mr. Treesong's Neighborhood... :)
Star Trek... I used to be insanely huge into this, but now realize how dorky some of it was... there were some shining moments, but as for the rest... what can I say, you had to be there...
TV with a Cover On It... this is my favorite show these days. That little piece of electronic technology is mostly just a psychic vampire... go check out Adbusters for more info on all that... I mostly just keep a cloth over it unless my roommates and I are watching a DVD/VHS or something.
Books
My own book, Revolution of One. :) No, seriously... check it out, d00d... :)
Everything by Starhawk, especially Fifth Sacred Thing and Spiral Dance and Dreaming the Dark and the Earth Path (which I'm just starting)
1984. I think this was the first truly dystopian book that I read. "Wait a minute... it can't just end like that. Are there pages missing from the end of the book?!?!"
Some good Permaculture books
Heroes
Starhawk. She's a real-life anarchist-feminist-author-speaker-organizer superhero in my book. I mean, don't get my wrong, I don't idealize or idolize her... but she's a very real hero in my book because of all that she's done to try to explore the meaning of life and improve the lot of others in this life.
The Avatar from the Ultima Series. I intend to write a complete fictionalized version of the entire Ultima series eventually. So far, I've got, like, a few pages. But it's all planned out in my head, honest! HAH!
Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (Yeah, you heard me right. Buffy's got the Super Slayer Powers... Willow's got the Magic... Giles has got the Knowledge/Brains... but what did Xander have? He was just an ordinary guy... and yet he did what he felt was right and showed tremendous compassion and good humor throughout. And he was pretty cute too... I mean I mostly dig chicks, and I don't think I quite had the hots for Xander... but I'm just saying, for a geeky character, he was pretty damn cute, eh?!?
Hugh Muldoon here in Carbondale... I don't see him much these days because he's retiring from his own retirement, but he's spent many years doing good things here in Southern Illinois. Many props to him
Mister Rodgers.... yeah, seriously. From all I've heard of him, he was just a kind and gentle soul who liked to talk to kids every week on the TV and help them to learn and feel comfortable and loved in life.
Lots and lots of political, ecological, and social activists, too many to mention. Anyone who has a vision for a more free/ecological/cooperative society and has the gonads to stand up and do something in service of that vision is my hero. Even if you just write a letter every now and then or go to a few conferences about such things, I count you among my fellow travellers.
Richard Garriott, the brilliant computer programmer / creative guy who started the Ultima series and lead it through its finest moments. There are a whole host of Origin people who also fall into this category who helped to fulfill the motto We Create Worlds but I don't know as much about them. I'd like to meet with Garriott someday and see what sort of politics he's into... hah!
Neo... NEO... we must all take the Red Pill and liberate ourselves from the Matrix! Neo was only the first... freedom can only be won if we EACH take the Red Pill... :)
Lots of other people too. But most of them are so cool that you'll hear about them even without me listing them all.
Treesong aka Mr. T's Details
Here For:
Networking. Dating. Serious Relationships. Friends. Revolution. World Domination.
About Me: I'm a Revolution of One. By day, I work in a food co-op, bringing healthy yummy food to people and supporting local and cooperative economics. By night, I'm an author, poet, and revolutionary, fighting for truth, justice, and the revolutionary way! Hah! Seriously though... I do what I can, and I try to keep things lighthearted with frequent bursts of good humor, dancing, and trips to the woods. I guess that means my ideal life would be a stand-up comic in a grove of ancient oaks surrounded by eco-ravers... :)
Who I'd Like to Meet:
I'd like to meet COOL PEOPLE. :) Seriously though... in terms of just hanging out with people, I like to meet anyone who's easy to talk to, keeps it real, and shares my interest in things like social/ecological issues, dark/sarcastic humor, light/fluffy humor that's outside of the box, time outdoors, earth-centered spirituality, healthy living, computers, sci-fi/fantasy, good movies, good books, long walks in the woods and/or on the beach, and having a good time in just about any way that doesn't involve kittens and microwaves. ("Meow... Meeeeeeoooooo.... SPLAT!")
