Return of the Light
Now that treesong.org is more or less back to normal, I'd like to share some thoughts on the return of the light.
Back on December 21, those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere experienced Winter Solstice, known to many as Yule.
Yule is the first turning point in the dawn of the new year. On the one hand, it's our moment of greatest darkness -- the moment when the tilt of our hemisphere away from the sun brings us the longest night of the entire year. On the other hand, Yule is also a turning point. We've seen our darkest hour, and each new day brings us more and more sunshine. So, even though some of the season's coldest weather may lie ahead, we can take comfort in the fact that the light is returning and Spring is on its way.
I really felt the energy of Yule when it came. The night before Yule, which was the longest night of the year, just felt terribly frustrating and depressing. I don't even remember what annoyances I had on my mind back then, but it probably had to do with a mix of finances, community dramas, and the usual medley of personal quirks. Then, I woke up the next morning with a surprising feeling of lightness and joy. At first, I didn't understand it -- but then I realized that the precise moment of Solstice had passed, and the light was returning.
The new year is still rather cold for me, both literally and metaphorically. I still owe money to a few good friends thanks to my recent moving expenses; I still owe a long-term debt to another person; and even my newly increased income isn't enough to let me live more than a moment away from poverty.
And yet, this year holds such promise! My website bills are cheaper now, meaning that the website is self-supporting and may eventually become a source of supplemental income. I've got several promising opportunities on the horizon forRevolution of One, and a wonderful fiction book to be completed sometime this year. AND, most importantly of all, my spiritual life is going wonderfully. It's often filled with seemingly insurmountable personal challenges -- but that's part of the point, and I am so thankful for my spiritual experience of life that I can't do this gratitude justice in a single blog entry.
So, the new year is dawning! And guess what? Imbolc is coming up at the start of February! This is a time when we'll first really start to see how much the light is returning and feel the rising warmth of Spring within ourselves and the land. Groundhog's Day and Valentine's Day are both related to Imbolc, so even if you've never heard of Imbolc, you're already celebrating this transition of the seasons in some form!
Ah, it's good to be back here on my blog and my website! I'll have an Imbolc-related post for you soon. In the meantime, I'd like to give another shout out to wdbx.scientistsuperstar.com, because I still think that it's SO cool that our local community radio station is now available worldwide! Be sure to tune in on Fridays at 10 a.m. Central time to hear me, or 9 a.m. Central time to hear my friends at Big Muddy News Radio. And check out WDBX.org for a listing of all of the other cool shows!
Thanks for caring, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
