The REAL Matrix | Treesong

> MORPHEUS: What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.

In 1999, as the world waited breathlessly for the dawn of Y2K, a new movie exploded across the silver screen. The name of this movie was “The Matrix.”

Maybe the themes of this movie weren’t entirely new to you. Maybe they were. Either way, something in the story, the presentation, the moment of delivery, lead you to a moment of awakening.

Surely, we’re not really biochemical batteries, enslaved by an empire of machines.

But…

…BUT…

…there is SOMETHING important happening here.

In the hours, days, weeks, months, and even years since the coming of this movie, the Matrix still has an uncommon place in your life. When you talk to your friends or family about going to work, paying the bills, living within the boundaries of today’s society, you may speak in terms of “the Matrix.” When you talk about searching for truth and choosing an authentic path in life instead of just going along with what everyone else is doing, you may talk about taking “the red pill.”

But still, there are so many questions… if this is just a movie, why does it have such a deep intuitive appeal? If the story is fictional, then what is the real life quantity that its symbols and themes are speaking to?

What is the Real Matrix?

> MORPHEUS: Do you want to know what it is? The matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes, to blind you to the truth.

> NEO: What truth?

> MORPHEUS: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage, born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind. Unfortunately, no one can be told what the matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.

Just as Morpheus says, it’s impossible for me to simply tell you what the Real Matrix is. I can tell you, and I will tell you… but in the end, all that I can do is offer you a choice. Only in response to this choice will your experiences shift and your potential to become aware of the Real Matrix awaken.

> MORPHEUS: This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
