I can read between the lines
on the computer screen.
Each night I slump down in my chair
and stare at the glowing monitor with bleary eyes
until the walls dissolve around me
and my body fades into the shadows
in a single heartbeat.
When it’s all gone
I step through the looking glass
to find myself in your arms.
Pixels blur into letters
and letters blend into words
until I can see your face
through the scrolling text.
I kiss you, and my lips linger on yours
while I trace the soft curves of your neck
and let my fingers show you how I feel.
You blush like a rose
when I sing silly songs for you
and you take me by the hand
to lead us through a field of blooming violets
where every purple blossom is a single letter
that tickles our ankles
and weaves a sweet-smelling blanket
for us to lay down in together.
Sometimes we laugh in each others arms
and roll around among the wildflowers.
Other times we cry like children
and kiss away each others tears.
Either way, the frozen miles of asphalt between us melt
from the warmth of our cuddling bodies
and in the stream of words that plays across my screen
I can touch your face
and see the cyber blushes
that always make me smile.
