Overshadowed

Sunlight
streams through the open arms
of an ancient ponderosa
smiling on the dew of a fern
that is snuggled close
to her welcoming breast.
But a shadow falls
over the forest
as I see the blue spraypaint
marking the trees.
A winding creek
meanders past the beargrass
and fills the forest
with the crystal clear echoes
of its running whisper.
But a shadow falls
over the forest
as I remember the broken bones
that this wetland will become.
The sun is shining
on the living forests
of Otter-Wing
and walking among the members
of this fertile family
warms my heart
on a cool summer day.
But a shadow falls
over the forest
as I envision the clearcuts
that will shatter this home
forever.
