I’ve created a warning label that you can add to fossil fuel posts on social media. Comment on posts with this label plus any extra text you like. It would also make a good sticker, flyer, or poster to use in response to fossil fuel content you encounter out in analog reality.
This warning label is inspired by ClientEarth’s campaign to mandate similar labels for BP ads. Feel free to use it for other companies too. Everything sold or published by fossil fuel companies should have a climate warning label.
The warning text was taken directly from a Grist article about ClientEarth’s #TheWholeTruth campaign:
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has found that emissions from fossil fuels are the dominant cause of global warming,. The IPCC warns that fossil fuel emissions must be halved within 11 years if global warming is to be limited to 1.5°C. Warming above 1.5°C risks further sea level rise, extreme weather, biodiversity loss, and species extinction, as well as food scarcity, worsening health and poverty for millions of people worldwide.
Feel free to take this label and use it wherever you see fossil fuel products or content.
Do you have any suggestions for changes? Let me know. If you create modified versions of this image/concept, let me know that too! I’d love to see what you come up with.
