Have you ever voted on the fate of a character in a work of fiction? Now’s your chance to help me choose my character’s next victim!
One of the two novels I’m writing, Burning, features a protagonist named Rionach. Rionach suffers a tremendous personal loss during a climate-fueled wildfire. Rather than dealing with her climate grief in more socially-acceptable ways, she decides to hunt the people responsible for the climate crisis.
In honor of Halloween, Samhain, and my inclusion in the “There Will Be Blood” gory ebook giveaway, I’ve decided to let my readers vote on who Rionach will choose as her next victim!
Choose My Character’s Next Victim
First, let me start with a disclaimer. Burning is a work of fiction. Rionach’s story is an exploration of climate grief, not a call to action. We’re voting on the fates of characters in a work of fiction, not actual human beings in real life.
Second, let me offer some additional context to help you decide how to vote. Rionach’s serial killing spree isn’t a hot-headed and impulsive quest for revenge. It’s a cold and calculated mission to eliminate some of the worst climate villains she can find in the hopes of creating a significant shift in greenhouse gas emissions.
As the reader, you’re welcome to vote however you’d like. You can base it on your assessment of each character’s responsibility for the climate crisis, or your opinion on which victim would make for a good story, or even just a whim. However you choose Rionach’s next victim is up to you.
Without further ado, here’s the poll. Now’s your chance to choose my character’s next victim!
